VOICE FACULTY

Mezzo-soprano Megan Gebert holds Bachelor of Music degrees in vocal performance and music education from Ithaca College in New York, and a Master of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Louisville.  She holds an initial teaching certificate from the state of New York in K-12 music, and is available to teach both voice lessons and beginning piano lessons.

Megan has been a member of the Louisville Academy of Music's voice faculty since 2007.  Her students attend Louisville's top high schools for music, including the Youth Performing Arts School, and are actively involved in the Louisville music community.

Megan has performed roles such as the Old Prioress in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites and Vera Boronel in Menotti’s The Consul.  In 2008 she traveled to Poland with the University of Louisville Opera Theatre program as part of a collaboration with the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music, singing Marcellina in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro.  Later that year she played Dinah in Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti.  She has also been a member of the Kentucky Opera chorus.

Megan’s students encompass a wide range of age and ability levels, from young beginners to adults.  Her students include those who wish to study voice seriously, and those who study simply for their own enjoyment.  Regardless of age/ability level, Megan’s teaching is grounded in the fundamentals of vocal pedagogy and of classical technique.

In addition to pursuing her own studies in classical voice, Megan is a regular in the Louisville jazz scene.  She is a frequent collaborator with the Paul Davis Trio, is a member of Louisville’s “Black Cat Jazz Band,” and has performed with renowned artists such as Steve Crews, Todd Hildreth, Gary Falk and Mike Hyman.
